At this B & B in Poole, we care about our carbon foot print. As one of our on going targets, we pledge to become a "greener" Guest House and do our bit to help save the planet. Below is a list of our on going "Green" achievements so far.

white_table.jpg1) All our linen is 100%  Egyptian Cotton with a weave of around 400 strands. Using natural fibres reduces the need for manufacturers to produce more man made fibres that use chemicals and irritants. It is well known that Cotton is a very healthy material, as it allows the body to breath. Though more expensive than some man made fibres, it lasts longer and maintains its quality for the lifetime of the product. Unlike poly cotton bedlinens, which tend to "bobble" and thin with wear and constant use. We think our b and b guests here in Poole are worth that little extra.

whisky_tumbler.jpg2) Instead of providing cheap plastic cups in the En-suite bathrooms, we provide guests with cut glass tumblers. Harder wearing, completely recyclable and much more appealing.

3) The toilet paper in your En-suites is made from recycled paper and the toiletries provided are eco friendly too.

4) By the end of 2010 we hope to have installed all over the our bed and breakfast property, energy efficient light bulbs and we are committed to not leaving electricals on standby.

5) Our Duvet covers are covered in 100% cotton with micro fibre - hypo-allergenic material. Dust mites and other creepy crawlies do not like Micro fibre as it is not an ideal habitat for them to live and breed in.

6) Our mattresses are Organically cleaned with natural products that are chemical free, completely recyclable and help to reduce 98% of dust mites and other creepy crawlies breeding in them.

7) By the same token, we have a contract with a local company who also clean our carpets & Mattresses using organic products to keep our carpets clean and free from harmful allergens a process which is much acclaimed by top hotels and governing bodies such as "Welcome Host"

fresh_crab.jpg8) We only buy our food products Locally and try where possible to use Organic, seasonal produce. This helps to reduce food miles. Which also reduces unnecessary packaging. We try to remember to use our recycled shopping bags instead of plastic bags too.

9) We recycle our kitchen waste and garden waste in the compost up the top of the garden and plough the resulting compost back into the garden to improve soil quality and fertility.

10) We recycle our waste paper and cardboard and have a contract with the local council to take our recyclable waste to a recycling centre. Our wine and beer bottles are recycled in the same way too! This Bed and Breakfast in Poole is heading in the right direction.
